I’m a fiction writer, journalist and photographer who engages readers in a thoughtful and positive way with vividly drawn characters, strong plot lines, hope, emotion, spirit and humor. I live in the Chicago area but was born and raised in Halifax, Nova Scotia. My novel, All Of The Above, is set in Nova Scotia and is a follow-up to my collection of short stories “Birthday Presence – 16 Stories With One Thing In Common”

​I’ve been active in various writers groups for more than 25 years including the Chicago Writers Association, (CWA) the Off Campus Writers Workshop, University of Chicago creative writing workshop, The Writers Loft (Chicago) the Northwestern University creative fiction writers group and the writing program at St. Mary’s University. I earned a Bachelor’s Degree in English Literature and Philosophy from, Dalhousie University, in Halifax and went on to earn a degree in Journalism from The University of King’s College, also in Halifax.

One of my other passions is photography, something I’ve enjoyed as a hobby and journalist. I’ve included some of my work on this site under the Photo Gallery tab. 

In addition to writing fiction, I also shot and edited an uplifting website and coffee table collection of photographs set on the campus of Northwestern University, in Evanston, Ill. That book is titled: NU Rock Art ( click here! )

I also produced, shot and edited an award winning television and web program featuring “in the street” news style book and movie reviews called – Guerrilla Reviews. Other TV projects include a series of award winning short films titled, No Budget Theater, Evanston Idol (a local version of the mega-hit TV show I wrote, coproduced and shot to raise money for Evanston TV) The Reporters and Meet the Pastor.

As a longtime freelance writer for, The Chicago Tribune, and Pioneer Press, I’ve written numerous news and feature stories as-well-as taking photographs to accompany stories.

I’m currently working on a second novel! A Psychological Thriller Murder Mystery set in Chicago!
